ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 9TH, 2012
It's MONDAY!
IT'S STATIC ELECTRICITY DAY
Static electricity is fun for sticking balloons to your hair, bad for touching doorknobs after crossing a carpeted room in your socks. This phenomenon occurs when two surfaces rub together and electrons jump ship, leaving one surface too positive and the other too negative. Now you know how it works, but good luck trying to avoid it.
I don't know if you saw the warning about how dangerous static electricity can be when filling up your gas tank in the winter, but be warned, you can be full of that static after sliding out of your car seat, so touch something else before you fill up. You can simply touch your car before you touch the gauge to fill up your car.
And it is also... CUT YOUR ENERGY COSTS DAY
A great New Year’s Resolution might be to reduce your energy consumption, and to save money in the process; right? Cut Your Energy Costs Day is all about using less electricity, and paying less money. Too bad we couldn't harness a little of that Static Electricity to make it work for us instead of irritating us the way it does.
One of the biggest energy savers here at my house are the new light bulbs. I guess they won't be making the old ones at all anymore.
NEWS FROM HOME
I don’t do resolutions. It’s rare for me to think more than 15 minutes ahead, so resolutions are meaningless. But I had stumbled across a novel idea on the internet which I offered up in lieu of resolutions: the reverse bucket list.
Instead of writing a list of things you want to do before you die, a bucket list, you write a list of the things you don’t want to do This is much more achievable.
So, before I die, I will not be doing any of the following:
I won’t do everything myself anymore. I'll ask for help or hire someone to do whatever it is I need done that will allow me more time to focus on the things I really want to focus on!I won't be everything to everybody. I will say no when asked to do something outside of my scope, capabilities or comfort zone.
I won't follow the crowd. Just because all your friends do something, doesn’t mean it’s right for you. Just because others do things a certain way, doesn’t mean you have to. Dare to be bold. Dare to stand out. Dare to be unique!
I won't make excuses for where I am in life. As human beings we all grew at different rates. Don’t compare yourself to others. We grow at different rates and as long as you are on track toward achieving your goals you are just fine.
I won't take advice from anyone I don’t want to! Everybody has advice, have you noticed that? When advice is given consider the source: is it someone you respect? If not, ignore them!
There are probably a lot more things that I will not be doing this year, but all in all I do think 2012 is going to be a busy year!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
My hands were busy through the day,
I didn't have much time to play,
the little games you asked me to.
I didn't have much time for you.
I'd wash your clothes, I'd sew and cook,
But when you'd bring your picture book,
and ask me, please to share your fun,
I'd say, a little later son.
I'd tuck you in all safe at night,
and hear your prayers, turn out the light,
then tiptoe softly to the door,
I wish I'd stayed a little more.
For life is short, and years rush past,
A little boy grows up so fast.
No longer is he at your side,
his precious secrets to confide.
The picture books are put away,
there are no children's games to play,
No good night kiss, no prayers to hear,
that all belongs to yesteryear.
My hands once busy now lie still,
the days are long and hard to fill,
I wish I might go back and do,
the little things you asked me to!

When I saw this poem it reminded me just how fast the time went by. I really don't think there were too many times that I was too busy to take time for my children, but still the time did fly.
COUNTING THE DAYS
A traveler crossed a frozen stream
in trembling fear one day;
Later another drove across,
and whistled all the way.
Great and little faith alike
were granted safe convoy;
One had pangs of needless fear,
the other all the joy.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
