ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
MONDAY, MARCH 21ST, 2016
91 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER
Life is a Special Occasion!
Don't put up a stink about today. Today is Fragrance Day. It is a great smelling day. The olfactory nerves in your nose, will enjoy this special day. Perfumes have been in use for hundreds of years. In ancient times, they were used to hide body odors. At the time, baths were infrequent. Perfumes played an important role in making the atmosphere more palatable. Today, the daily shower eliminates the bad odors. But, we still like the smell and attraction of perfume.
Celebrate today by buying some perfume or cologne for yourself, or as a gift for someone. Make sure to put on just the right amount of perfume or cologne. Overpowering perfume ruins the value of the fragrance to the sniffer. Also, check your room deodorizers, and replace them with a new fragrance, if needed.
The nose knows just how sweet it is - or not!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains; another, a moonlit beach; a third, a family dinner of pot roast and sweet potatoes during a myrtle mad August in a Midwestern town. Smells detonate softly in our memory like poignant land mines hidden under the weedy mass of years. Hit a tripwire of smell and memories explode all at once. A complex vision leaps out of the undergrowth.
My all time favorite fragrance is Rose. Roses always remind me of my mom as she used a body lotion that smelled like them. The pictures today are of my rose bush which won’t be blooming here at all till some time in May.
It’s amazing how smell affects most everything we do. Good smells always make us feel welcome and comfortable, but bad smells on the other hand leave us feeling quite forlorn. Our sense of smell can warn us of danger too.
We associate summer with the smell of freshly cut grass, thunderstorms with the smell of damp air and the acrid scent of sulfur when lightning has struck. We often connect memories of winter holidays with warm smells of baked pies and cookies.
Remembering our favorite fragrances will often stir up memories that were long forgotten. A scent can be like flicking a switch in your memory bank. Fragrance and memory are intrinsically linked. Today is a chance to make some new memories of our own. The moment we smell a fragrance, we record our first impressions in our own personal memories. The moment we actually smell something new is very important because we associate our current emotions and impressions with that scent.
Remember to take time to smell the roses!
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday !
